If you didn’t see it, stop reading this now. Consider yourself warned For six seasons I’ve loyally watched Dexter , so last night’s pivotal plot point in which Debra learned her brother Dexter is a murderer, something that’s been under wraps since day one, should have been the greatest of reveals. But I just couldn’t shake the dirty substory of Deb deciding she is in love with her brother. Let me back up, Deb has been attending therapy sessions this season because she’s seen endless horrible things as a Miami Metro lieutenant. But out of the blue in one session, the therapist suggested that Deb has a crush on her brother. Supposedly softening the blow is that Deb and Dexter aren’t blood siblings; he’s adopted. But it doesn’t matter. They were raised as brother and sister–that’s the only way the audience has ever seen them–and now we have to sit through dream sequences in which they kiss? No thanks.
After eight seasons, now we know the fate of Dexter and Debra Morgan. How much time and money was put into this hour compared to a typical week? There were a lot of visual effects that are very costly and then to go out and shoot in Astoria added to our price tag. But it was our final episode and Showtime was very accommodating. Our normal eight days of production became 10 days.
Before the season started, you said the core idea behind this finale has been in the works for years.

Dexter “Do the Wrong Thing” Review: Double Date work—and the show has always been intrigued with having Dexter find someone who he.
Skip navigation! Story from TV Shows. Warning: Spoilers for Dexter , which ended six years ago, ahead. Earlier this week, Netflix felt the need to speak out. The streaming service had finally had enough — simply too many people on Twitter were calling mass murderer Ted Bundy hot. Hall, now leading Skittles Super Bowl ads , who now also lives on Netflix.
The OG Showtime serial killer is the forefather of all of this murder-adjacent thirst — and the antidote. From the jump, Dexter , which began its eight-season run in October , wants viewers to not only root for its leading man, but to lust after him. Dexter, a Miami Police Department-employed forensics technician, is shirtless within the first 10 minutes of the series premiere. But Dexter is banking on more than star Michael C. Much of his pristine murdering is owed to the code he set up with his late father Harry James Remar , a former cop: only kill bad people when you find hard evidence.
Although Harry is dead, he still appears in scene-setting flashbacks that slowly unveil Dexter’s horrifically traumatizing past. Dexter’s connections with the women in his life work even harder to make him look like a covetable partner.
He’s smart, he’s good looking, and he’s got a great sense of humor. He’s Dexter Morgan, everyone’s favorite serial killer. As a Miami forensics expert, he spends his days solving crimes, and nights committing them. But Dexter lives by a strict code of honor that is both his saving grace and lifelong burden.
D eb – Dex Drama: Congratulations to whoever had Episode 8 in their “When will ‘Dexter’ drudge up the semi-incestuous Deb-is-in-love-with-Dexter storyline from last season” office pool. He already did her there last episode. When that revelation stirred up some jealous feelings, Deb finally confessed to Dexter that she’s in love with him. So we now have a brother-sister-serial-killer-cop-other-lady-serial-killer love triangle on our hands.
To recap: Dexter was going to kill Hannah, then he decided to have sex with her instead. Dexter told her he couldn’t because he’s been sleeping with her. Deb told Dexter she was in love with him. It’s almost as weird as the Petraeus scandal. As usual, Deb summed up things well. You’re a serial killer and I’m more fucked up than you are. The whole thing kind of felt like a soapy step back for the show, which has been rejuvenated in its seventh season thanks to the push-and-pull between Deb and Dexter that’s been focusing on how she would handle learning he’s serial killer.
Sometimes Dexter was Norman Bates. Sometimes he was John-Boy Walton. You might as soon have expected Hannibal Lecter to open a funeral home for the indigent, or the Talented Mr. Ripley to sculpt balloons into animals for nursing-home patients. So what happened to Michael C. He grew a thin red beard and, from what I could tell, became the very depressed employee of a logging company.
Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is a blood spatter pattern analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department He also happens to be a serial killer But a serial.
This season started off strong, then took a turn for the worse. Still, I was optimistic that this final hour would be a redemption of sorts, a fitting end to the story of Dexter Morgan and his sister. It was anger. This is not a violent anger. The writers managed to tie up everything and nothing all at once.
Only five characters mattered in the end — the Morgans, Harrison, Saxon, and Hannah. That makes sense, to some degree. But as much as we grew to like Batista and the rest of the Miami Metro crew, to wrap things up with no resolution or hint of their future feels incomplete. When Harrison said he loved Hannah, it was over; now we, the audience, have been informed that the little guy will be just fine with his new mommy — and without his dad. If only Dexter had killed Saxon when he should have.
Or if the marshal had any clue that Saxon was the focus of a state-wide manhunt when he stumbled across him tied to a chair. First, he kills Saxon with a ball-point pen to the jugular, in full view of surveillance cameras minus the audio, of course. Next on the checklist: Cruise up to the hospital in his boat for one last visit with Deb.
Dexter and Arthur find themselves on a collision course, as Debra unearths a shocking long-hidden truth, Rita admits her marriage to Dexter is troubled, and Batista and LaGuerta face the consequences In the Season One finale, Dexter follows the clues left for him by the Ice Truck Killer in an effort to rescue his kidnapped loved one, while Rita’s ex tries to convince her that Dexter is too Season 7 premiere. When a beloved TV show ends, it elicits a flurry of emotions: sadness because the story is over, excitement for the final chapter, and occasionally, disappointment over how the writers decided to handle the finale. That was certainly the case with Dexter , a popular crime drama series that aired in the mid-aughts and shocked viewers with its fascinating yet grotesque premise.
